PDF Security -- password encryption
PDF security depends on encrypting (scrambling) the PDF content data using a secret “key”
(password) so that only authorized end users (with access to the secret key) can unscramble and
read the content. Adobe first developed the PDF file format and a standard of password encryption
that is virtually impossible to crack.
PDF Security experts warn about the vulnerabilities of Adobe PDF (PDFsecurity & PDFencryption).
This information shows how standard PDF security can be compromised. However their own
information shows that using Acrobat 5+, 128 bit encryption and ultra strong User and Owner
passwords make PDF files impossible to crack (if you don’t give anyone the User password).
All of these security measures are implemented by the HYPrLock DRM security systems.
The inherent flaw of standard PDF security is that (First) PDF authors tend to use simple “easy to
remember” passwords that are easily cracked and (Second) they must distribute a USER
password to the end user so the PDF file can be opened.
Standard PDF passwords have habit of being shared and falling into the hands of PDF hackers.
If PDF hackers can use “brute force” to figure out a simple password or gets their hands on a
USER password they can remove all security measures and edit, copy, modify, print or share the
PDF file at will. There is no end of PDF cracking software available on the Internet (see PDF
cracks on Google). To prevent PDF pirates from stealing your content use HYPrLock.
Online PDF Security -- distribution control (NO content protection)
Most online PDF security systems try to protect your PDF file by using online login methods to
restrict access to the file. Unfortunately, online security systems are easily hacked and offer little
real protection. End users still need a PDF password to open the PDF file (which they can then
pass on).
To convince customers to sign “never ending” and expensive contracts online services promote the
benefits of online Tracking. While “Tracking” sounds beneficial, a few wasted days pouring over
useless statistics will demonstrate -- the only really important data you need to track -- is how
many sales you made.
HYPrLock PDF Security -- distribution control (plus content protection)
Unlike PDF security systems that try to restrict access to your PDF file using online login,
HYPrLock uses a unique “double lock” security system on the end users computer (where it
belongs). End users only need online access for a “one time” registration.
distribution control
HYPrLock uses a unique distribution password to hardware lock it’s products to each
client/customer computer . For extra protection, these distribution passwords are securely
encrypted and hidden from password pirates. Your customers will appreciate the instant unlocking
of your PDF/eBook. No waiting. No emails to send. No online password scripts. No monthly fees,
No problems.
content protection
Using a new and exclusive security model with "invisible" passwords generated "on the fly",
HYPrLock maintains full control of your PDF document. Your customer never sees the PDF
passwords, never enters the PDF passwords, and never has access to the PDF passwords. This
prevents your PDF passwords from being shared with friends or passed on to PDF hackers.
No other PDF security system can match HYPrLock’s “double lock” password system.
HYPrLock’s US government strength “invisible” passwords and “on the fly” security is rated safe
from Brute force attacks (multi - super computers) for over 45,000 years. HYPrLock does not use
JavaScript in Adobe Reader, PDF plug-ins or any other insecure protection methods.
After HYPrLock has encrypted a PDF file, it can only be decrypted and opened by HYPrLock.
Mobile & eReaders -- Do not provide MAXIMUM security for authors
The new and exciting mobile and eReader distribution systems can be very attractive to an eBook
author. Unfortunately, when you examine these systems closely you soon discover they are more
restrictive and complicated to use than PDF files and provide little or no copyright protection.
PDF files can be produced by most major authoring programs (such a MS Word) or by using a
simple print command. This makes it relatively easy for anyone to produce secure, e-commerce
ready PDF documents. The PDF format allows authors to create exciting multimedia content
(including video and audio files) with little or no programming experience.
On the other hand, authors wishing to publish in an eReader or HTML eBook format must either
contract outside support or take the time to learn HTML/XML programming.
Unless an author wants to spend a lot more time and money producing content that can easily be
shared and pirated, then PDF files are the quickest and most secure publishing format available.
PDF Distribution -- Why authors should use HYPrLock
The DRM (digital rights management) trend today advocates a weak security system that allows
readers to “share” content with their friends and family. Why?
National distributors (Barns and Noble, Amazon etc) see more profit in attracting readers than
protecting authors. From their perspective, there is more money in a weak security system that
allows readers to share content. Their eReader security model fits well with that philosophy --
because online security systems are invasive, complicated and do not work very well.
HYPrLock believes that authors have just as much right as any other business, to earn “profit”
from their intellectual property. Just because authors of “paper” books can not prevent “sharing” --
doesn’t give PDF/eBook consumers the automatic right to share copyright material.
No one provides stronger or easier to use PDF protection than HYPrLock (no matter how much
they charge). If you want to ensure that customers can not “share” and pirates can not steal your
intellectual property -- HYPrLock provides the strongest security solution available.

Hacker Proof -- How safe is HYPrLock
HYPrLock uses “on the fly” technology to open encrypted code blocks into active memory at “run
time”. This exclusive coding technique makes HYPrLock’s operational code invisible to hackers
and prevents the use of “hacker” software -- making HYPrLock virtually hacker proof.
Disclosure: Due to a programming error -- a “crack” for an older (2007) version of HYPrLock
(v5.75) appeared on the Internet. This “crack” allowed free installations of the HYPrLock program
itself -- but never compromised the PDF security system code or any customers PDF files.
Since that time, GoldPanner Software developed it’s “on the fly” technology and “self” file checking
to prevent similar security attacks.
If you want to sell or distribute intellectual property, confidential business information,
industrial secrets or private correspondence that must remain completely secure and
protected from unauthorized viewing, copying, editing, modifying, sharing, printing and
safe from hackers or PDF pirates then you need MAXIMUM security.
For some authors -- online PDF security may be good enough -- but for MAXIMUM
security you need HYPrLock’s “double lock” PDF security system.
